Heater Core: Service and Repair
1. On 1984 models, move temperature control lever to the Warm position.
2. On 1985-88 models, start engine and place temperature control lever in the Max Hot position, then stop engine.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable.
4. On all models, remove horn pad, then disconnect horn cable electrical connector.
5. Remove bolts securing steering wheel, then using a suitable puller remove steering wheel.
6. Remove column switch from steering shaft.
7. Remove instrument cluster. Refer to ``Instrument Cluster, Replace.''
8. Remove front and rear console.
9. Remove glove box, glove box door and ashtray.

10. Remove left and right dash panel side covers using tool MB990784 or equivalent, Fig. 27.
11. Remove fuse block and hood lock release handle.

12. Remove side defroster grille, Fig. 28.
13. Remove heater control knobs.
14. Remove heater control panel, then disconnect electrical connectors and function cables.

15. Remove bolts and screws attaching dash panel, then remove dash panel, Fig. 29.
16. Drain coolant from radiator, then remove heater hose from heater core housing.
17. Remove air ducts from heater core housing.

19. Remove heater core from housing.
20. Reverse procedure to install.
