Shift Cables - Noise

NO.: TSB-88-21-016
DATE: SEPTEMBER, 88
MODEL: 1987, 88 Mirage, Galant, Sigma

SUBJECT:
KM200 SERIES SHIFT CABLE NOISE

PURPOSE

Some manual transaxle equipped vehicles with cable operated shifters may have a noise created by the shift cables vibrating while the vehicle is being driven. This bulletin describes how to reduce the vibration.

DESCRIPTION

Normal engine and transmission operation can cause vibrations in the shift cables, which can cause noise in the passenger compartment. The vibration may be reduced by binding the shift cables together as indicated.

PROCEDURE

Make sure that the shift cable mechanism is properly adjusted by referring to the proper Service Manual. For cable adjustment procedures for the 1987 Galant and Mirage, refer to TSB-87-21-015. Use a large plastic tie wrap to bind the shift cables together in the engine compartment as shown.
