This bulletin describes two modifications made to the shift control mechanism of 1987 Mirage and Galant vehicles equipped with the KM200-series manual transaxle.

MODIFICATIONS
1. Interlock Plate Modification The shape of the interlock plate has been changed to reduce the possibility of double meshing (engagement of two gears at the same time). The modified interlock plate was added to vehicles beginning with the following date and transaxle number and is shown in Figure 1:

2. Neutral Return Spring Modification The installation direction of the neutral return spring has been changed to improve serviceability. The large diameter end of the spring should now face the clutch housing (needle bearing) instead of the interlock plate (Figure 2). The new installation direction was added to vehicles beginning with the following date and transaxle number:

When reassembling the shift control mechanism of earlier transaxles, install the neutral retum spring in the new direction. As reference to this bulletin, write the STB number in the revision boxes on the following pages:
