A/T - Delayed Shift Neutral to Drive/Neutral to Reverse
87mitsubishi03SUBJECT:
KM 175 TRANSAXLE - DELAYED SHIFT - N-D OR N-R
NO. STB-87-21-006
DATE March, 1987
MODEL 1987 Galant
PURPOSE
This bulletin contains information on a delayed-shift condition that may occur in some Galant automatic transaxles and the recommended corrective action.
SYMPTOM
1. Delayed shift from "N" to "D" or "R" - 1.5 to 3 seconds.
2. Engine "flares", followed by harsh transmission engagement when shifted from "N" to "D" or "R".
3. No drive when shifted from "N" to "D".
CAUSE
The center of the relief spring hole in the valve body is misaligned, with the result that the steel ball which acts as a spring-loaded valve does not seat completely, causing fluid leakage past the ball.

DIAGNOSIS
Positive diagnosis of this condition can be made by checking the reducing pressure. Fig. 1 shows the location of pressure tap. If reducing pressure vades considerably and is consistently below the recommended range of 48-71 psi in N fully warmed-up, then the valve is leaking.
Test the pressure first in N at Idle and then at 2500 rpm, then in "D" and "R" at idle and 2500 rpm. Record the pressure readings.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the valve body with Part No. MD726625
WARRANTY INFORMATION
