PURPOSE
The KM175 transaxle case assembly (replacement part) used in 1985, 1986 and 1987 Galant vehicles (P/N MD721835) has been modified. Because the part number of the new case assembly has not changed, follow the instructions below when replacing the case assembly.

CASE IDENTIFICATION
The new case assembly contains a third boss with a threaded hole as shown in Figure 1. This new threaded hole is not used when the case is installed in 1985, 1986 and 1987 Galant vehicles.
In addition, some of these new case assemblies may have three studs installed in the upper mount location holes (Figure 1). If the studs are present, remove and discard them before installing the case in the vehicle.

CASE REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
The oil drain plug hole of the new case assembly (Figure 2) is smaller than the drain hole of the old case assembly. Therefore, if a new case assembly (with 3 mounting bosses) is installed, a new 14 mm x 1.25 drain plug (P/N MD050316) must be installed. This is the same drain plug used in the KM177 transaxle of Sigma vehicles.
PARTS INFORMATION
The part number of the KM175 transaxle case assembly (P/N MD721835) has not changed. However, the part number of the drain plug for the case assembly has changed as shown below.
