Component Tests and General Diagnostics

IGNITION COIL
4 Cylinder Engine
1. Connect suitable ohmmeter between ignition coil positive and negative terminals.
2. Resistance reading should be between 0.72 and 0.88 ohms.
3. Connect ohmmeter between coil positive terminal and coil high voltage terminal.
4. Resistance reading should be 10.3 to 13.9k ohms.
5. If resistance readings are not within limits, replace ignition coil.

POWER TRANSISTOR
1. Disconnect power transistor electrical connector.
2. Connect negative terminal of 3 volt power source to power resistor terminal 2. Connect positive terminal of 3 volt power source to power resistor terminal 1.
3. Check for continuity between power resistor terminals 2 and 3 as power source is connected and disconnected from terminal 1.
4. With power source connected, continuity should be indicated. With power source disconnected, no continuity should be indicated.
