1987 GALANT COLD START DIE-OUT
NO. TSB-88-14-002
DATE January, 1988
MODEL 1987 Galant
PURPOSE
This bulletin describes a repair procedure for 1987 Galant vehicles that exhibit a cold start die-out condition. This condition usually occurs when the ambient temperature is between 55~ and 75~ F and the engine temperature has stabilized cold. The symptoms of this condition are as follows:
^ Engine dies-out immediately after cold start up.
^ If engine does start, it dies-out when the transmission is placed in gear. This may occur one or more times.
If the above symptoms are exhibited, use the procedure in this bulletin to install a modulator kit at the electronic control unit (ECU). The modulator kit sends a signal to the ECU that enriches the fuel mixture for the first 30 seconds of engine operation. Please note that the modulator kit is for 1987 Galant vehicles only.
