Without Cranking Engine

Spark Test:

NOTE: Catalytic converter damage may result if raw gas contaminates the hot catalyst while cranking engine to perform spark test. Use these tests to check spark without cranking engine.

1. Remove distributor cap.
2. Check signal rotor position in relation to pick-up. If not as shown, manually turn crankshaft until rotor projection is moved away from center of pick-up.
3. Remove coil high tension lead from distributor cap and hold end (with insulated pliers) 0.2 - 0.4 in (5 - 10 mm) from suitable ground.
4. Turn ignition "ON." Each time a screwdriver tip is moved in and out of gap between rotor and pick-up, a spark should occur.
