Fig. 13 Main bearing insert identification:

1. Install main upper bearing on cylinder block, Fig. 13, and lower bearing on main bearing caps.
2. Install crankshaft and apply engine oil to journals.

3. Caps should be installed with arrows facing forward and in proper number order, Fig. 14.

4. Torque main bearing cap bolts to specification and check to ensure crankshaft rotates freely and has proper endplay.
5. Using crankshaft rear oil seal installer MD998376 or equivalent, install seal in case.
6. Install oil separator into case with .16 inch diameter oil hole in lowermost position.
7. Install new oil seal case gasket and oil seal case assembly.
8. Install rear plate to cylinder block.
9. On manual transmission models, install flywheel and torque bolts to specification, then check clutch mounting surface for runout.
10. On automatic transmission models, install adapter plates and drive plate, then torque bolts to specification.
