PURPOSE Fogging of the rear window glass in early 1986 model Galant, Cordia, and Tredia models is usually the result of evaporation of a plasticizer used in the rubber gasket around the high mounted stop lamp. A new gasket of more stable composition must be installed to correct the condition.
VEHICLES AFFECTED This condition is likely to be observed only on early-production vehicles built before the serial numbers listed below.

PROCEDURE
1. Remove the high mounted stop lamp from the shelf panel.
2. Clean the glass with a shop cloth moistened with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Remove rubber particles with a shop cloth moistened with MEK.
NOTE: MEK in liquid form is harmful to interior plastic parts. To avoid risk of damage from spilled liquid MEK, pour the MEK onto the cloth before entering the vehicle.
3. Remove the gasket from the high mounted stop lamp and discard it. With a sharp knife, scrape off all remaining shreds of the old gasket.
4. Install the new gasket.
5. Reinstall the high mounted stop lamp.
NOTE: If washers installed in production were in the vehicle, reuse them. If the car was not already equipped with washers, please install two of them.
