(Universal System) The equipment evaluated consisted of the bench, measuring system, data sheets, rocker-panel clamp assemblies, four rail tie-down legs, two pulling units referred to as a "draw-aligner" and two jigging clamps. The bench is equipped with casters allowing easy movement within the shop. When not in use the bench, which measures 3 feet by 13 feet 4 inches, can be set flat on the floor and a vehicle can be parked over it. The working height of the bench is not adjustable and frequently limits access to the vehicle underbody. Sturdiness of the bench prevents any twist from occurring because of an un- even floor. Vehicles are anchored by adjustable rocker-panel clamps. Measuring is accomplished by mechanical indicators which identify the proper location, but not the angle, of the control points. There is no provision for "locking" restored areas; however, jigging for the installation of new parts is provided by special clamps that attach to 12 Cthe measuring indicators and replacement part. Removal of mechanical parts is not necessary with this measuring system and no additional equipment is required to measure different makes and models. Pulling was tested by using the two "draw-aligners" and also using the pot and rail systems. All pulling systems pro- vided multiple and 360~ pulls. During pulling operations the mechanical measuring indicators, in the area being repaired, should be lowered or removed to prevent their being damaged. After the pull, the indicators should be repositioned and checked for proper fit. Using a floor jack, one skilled technician is required for setup and takedown. Time required for setup and takedown is approximately one hour and 45 minutes.
