Applied Power Bench

(Dedicated System) The equipment evaluated consisted of the bench, transverse beams, three sets of fixtures, data sheets, and rocker-panel clamp assemblies. No pulling equipment was supplied with this unit. The bench is equipped with casters allowing easy movement within the shop. When not in use, the bench, which occupies a space of 4 feet 1 inch by 13 feet 9 inches, must be stored. The working height of the bench is not adjustable and frequently limits access to the vehicle underbody. There are no provisions to compensate for an uneven floor which
could cause a twist in the bench and affect fixture fit. Vehicles are anchored by adjustable rocker-panel clamps and the fixtures. The fixtures will also "lock" in restored areas to prevent distortion. Many of the fixtures have sliding pins that can be lowered for clearance while pulling. The fixtures identify the angle and the position of all critical control points and function as a welding jig to position structural components. Some fixtures are located in areas that require removal of mechanical components. Pulling was provided by floor pots or a rail system which al- lows multiple and 360~ pulls. Using a floor jack, one skilled technician, and one unskilled technician are required for setup and takedown. Time required for setup and take down is approximately two hours and ten minutes. Using a two-post hoist, one skilled technician, and one unskilled technician are required for setup and takedown. Time required for setup and takedown is approximately one hour and 30 minutes.
