Features Shared By the Three Dedicated Systems Evaluated:
12 C^ During pulling operations, certain fixtures (bolt on) and fixtures that interfere with down pulls must be removed. After the pull has been completed the fixtures are installed and checked for proper alignment.
^ There are no provisions to measure conventional frames with these dedicated systems.
^ With training provided by the manufacturer, eight hours is sufficient for a skilled technician to have a good understanding of the system.
12 C^ Different fixtures are usually required for different makes and models. Fixtures can be rented or purchased.
Features shared by the three universal systems evaluated:
^ If measuring specifications are unavailable from the equipment manufacturer, data can be converted from other sources, another vehicle, or repair can be accomplished symmetrically. Care should be taken with the latter method since not all control points are symmetrical.
^ These systems can be used to repair conventional frames by welding angle iron in four appropriate locations on the frame, fastening the rocker panel clamps to the angle iron for anchoring, and employing the measuring system to establish proper dimensions.
^ With training provided by the manufacturer, eight hours is sufficient for a skilled technician to have a basic understanding of the system. It should be noted that it will take more time to become proficient with this system versus a dedicated system.
^ The measuring systems are sensitive and care should be taken to avoid damage.
Mounting and dismounting time will be influenced by the type of support equipment used, technician skill level and vehicle damage incurred. Mounting and dismounting times reflect Tech-Cor's experience only and is not intended nor should be used to establish flat rate times.
The purpose of these evaluations was to provide a basis for comparison among these systems and is not to be considered as an endorsement of any product.
