Fuel Injector: Testing and Inspection

1. If engine can be started, proceed as follows:
a. Start engine and allow to idle, then disconnect electrical connector for injector of each cylinder, noting change in idling RPM and idling stability.
b. A large change in the idling condition should be noticed when each electrical connector is disconnected. On cylinders where no idle change is present, replace injector and repeat steps a and b.
c. With engine idling, ensure that each injector makes and operating sound. If no operating sound is present, replace injector.
d. Check continuity of wiring harness between control unit and injectors. Repair as required.
2. If engine can't be started, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect injector electrical connector and measure resistance between injector terminals, Fig. 7. Resistance should be 2.3 ohms.
b. If resistance is not as specified, replace injector. If resistance is normal, check for short circuit, broken or disconnected wiring, poor contact between injector and resistor or poor contact between control unit and resistor. Repair as required.
