MODEL 1985 Starion
PURPOSE

This bulletin contains diagnostic and repair information for two conditions that can be encountered with the Starion automatic air conditioning system. These are:

1. Temperature read-out disappears when UP or DOWN temperature buttons are pushed.
2. Blower speed cannot be controlled.

DIAGNOSIS

1. Whenever the UP or DOWN button is pushed, the digital display goes blank.

2. The fan OFF button is depressed to shut off the fan, but the fan continues to run; or, fan speed cannot be changed by depressing the buttons.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Both the above conditions can be corrected by replacing the control panel MB276496. Only if this fails to correct the conditions should it be necessary to replace the controller MB276497.

1. Using a trim tool or slim screwdriver, pry off the bezel surrounding the panel.

2. Remove the two panel mounting screws shown in Fig. 1 on the next page.

3. Pull the panel outward from the instrument panel far enough to reach the connector for the blue wires on the left (driver's) side Disconnect the connector.

4. Disconnect the other two connectors connecting the panel to the control unit, and then withdraw the panel.

5. Install a new panel MB276496 in reverse order of disassembly.
