Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Testing and Inspection


1. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
2. Remove the green striped hose from the injection mixer and connect a vacuum pump to the hose end.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector of the solenoid valve and apply approximately 33 kPa (10 in. Hg) of vacuum. If engine idle becomes unstable the EGR system is operating properly.
4. Reconnect the electrical connector of the solenoid valve and perform test as in step 3 except that engine idle should remain stable. If idle does become unstable the solenoid valve is stuck closed and must be replaced.
