This bulletin corrects the distributor description in the 1985 Mirage Service Manual. As reference to this bulletin, please write the STB number in the revision boxes on the following pages: 8-51, 8-55, 8-56, 8-57, 8-58, 8-59.

DISASSEMBLY

1. Remove retaining clips, and remove cap.
2. Remove rotor from rotor shaft.
3. Remove cover and seal ring.
4. Remove two vacuum controller installation screws.
5. Remove snap ring, and then remove vacuum controller. (Fig. 2)

6. Remove signal rotor shaft tightening screw and two stator installation screws.
7. Remove the signal rotor shaft and stator assembly (Fig. 3). When stator assembly has been removed, be sure that it is not placed in an area where it might attract iron filings or pieces of metal.

8. Lightly tap signal rotor shaft to remove it from signal rotor (Fig. 4).

9. Remove two screws and remove the pick-up coil from stator (Fig. 5).

10. Use pliers to remove two spring retainers, and then remove the two governor springs. (Fig. 6).
11. Remove two governor weights.

12. Mark the distributor shaft to show the drive gear position (Fig. 7).
13. Place the drive gear on soft base (wooden block) so that the roll pin can be removed.
14. Remove the roll pin by using a pin punch (Fig. 7).
15. Remove the drive gear and washer.
16. Remove the distributor shaft from the housing.

Replace the procedures for "INSPECTION - 1.6L Turbo Engine", "REASSEMBLY - 1.6L Turbo Engine", and "INSTALLATION" with the text and illustrations below.

INSPECTION

PICKUP COIL

^ Using a circuit tester, measure the resistance of the pickup coil as shown in Fig. 8.

Pickup coil resistance: 920 to 1 120 ohm

REASSEMBLY

Reassemble the distributor in reverse order of disassembly, with following exceptions:
^ Install the drive gear into distributor shaft at the previously marked location, then install a new roll pin. (Fig. 9)

^ Install the stator and pickup coil assembly in the housing. Index stator base so that projection (A) fits in groove (B). See Figure 10.

^ After installing the signal rotor, check to be sure that the signal rotor and stator of pick-up do not contact each other. (Fig. 11)

INSTALLATION

1. Turn crankshaft until piston in No. 1 cylinder is at top dead center on compression stroke.
2. Align the mating mark on the distributor housing with the punch mark on the distributor driven gear (Fig. 12).

3. Install the distributor to the cylinder head while aligning the mating mark on the distributor attaching flange with the center of the distributor installing stud, and tighten nuts (Fig. 13).
4. Connect spark plug cables and secondary cable to distributor.
5. Connect the distributor wiring connector.
6. Connect the battery ground cable
7. Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum controller nipple.
8. Adjust ignition timing.
