Without Cranking Engine
NOTE: Catalytic converter damage may result if raw gas contaminates the hot catalyst while cranking engine to perform spark test. Use these tests to check spark without cranking engine.TEST 1
1. Remove distributor cap.
2. Remove coil high tension lead from distributor cap and hold end (with insulated pliers) 0.2 - 0.4 in (5 - 10 mm) from suitable ground.
3. With ignition "ON," turn rotor as far as possible in normal direction (clockwise), then return to starting position. When signal rotor projection moves close to stator, a spark should occur.
TEST 2
Fig. 2 Moving screwdriver tip in & out through gap between governor base & housing:
1. Remove distributor cap.
2. Move a screwdriver tip in and out of gap between rotor and stator. A spark should be produced as in TEST 1.
TEST 3
1. Remove distributor from engine, leaving primary wiring connected.
2. Hold distributor body in contact with engine and turn distributor shaft by hand.
3. With ignition "ON," spark should occur unless problems exist.
