M/T - Changes
NO. STB-84-21-011DATE October 1984
MODEL 1984 Cordia/Tredia
SUBJECT:
CORDIA/TREDIA MANUAL TRANSAXLE CHANGES
DESCRIKION OF CHANGE To improve shift quality, the control finger ratio of the 1984 Cordia/Tredia manual transaxle was changed in January 1984 from 1.03 to 1.29, beginning with transaxle CW 6839.
INTERCHANGEABILITY Parts are not interchangeable with earlier parts because the ratio change would increase the stoke length of the existing shift lever, causing an interference between the shift lever and the body of the car.

COMPONENTS AFFECTED Components affected by the change are listed in Table 1. The Key numbers in Table I refer to corresponding numbers in Figures 1 and 2 of this bulletin.
Note: The illustrations show the component parts of the new transmission shift control. Modified parts are numbered.
DETAILS OF THE MODIFICATIONS The following numbered descriptions correspond to the Key numbers in Table I and Figures 1 and 2.

FIGURE 4:
(1) Control Finger - the lever ratio has been changed from 1.03 (32 mm/31 mm) to 1.29 (40 mm/31 mm). See Figure 3. Also, in the KM166 4+2 speed transmission, a lever has been added to the control finger. The old and new parts are compared in Figure 4.
FIGURE 5:
(2) Control Shaft Assembly - the length of the control shaft has been reduced 4 mm as shown in Figure 5.
FIGURE 6:
FIGURE 7:
(3), (4), (5) (6) Shift Rail Assembly, Shift Fork-the shift rails in the 4+2 speed transaxle are now like those in the 5-speed transaxle. Figure 6 compares the old and new shift rail. The shift lug dimension is changed as shown in Figure 7.
FIGURE 8:
(7) Interlock Plunger Added - An interlock plunger has been added to the 1-2 shift rail of the 4+2 speed transaxle to prevent double engagement. See Figure 8.
FIGURE 9:
(8) Select lever, 5-speed transaxle - the dimension shown in Figure 9 has been changed.
FIGURE 10:
(9) Shift Shaft, 4 +2 speed - the step dimension has changed as shown in Figure 10.
(10). (11) Return Spring, 5-speed - Spring dimensions are changed as shown in Table II.
FIGURE 11:
(12) Collar Added - the collar shown in Figure 11 has been added to restrict control finger movement.
FIGURE 12:
(13) Spring Retainer - dimensions are changed as shown in Figure 12.
