5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSAXLE SELECT CONTROL VALVE
DIAGNOSIS OF CONDITION

The condition is limited to certain 1984 Cordias and Tredias with 5-speed manual transaxle. An incomplete shift into fifth gear occurs the first time the car is driven after an extended cooldown, as when parked overnight. After this, the transmission shifts normally.

CORRECTION PROCEDURES

If the vehicle falls into the VIN range in Table I, replace the Select Control Valve, part #MD712516 for 1.8L cars and #MD703922 for 2.0L cars. Be certain the new Select Control Valve is marked with white paint as shown in Figure 1.
