This bulletin contains information on I) modification to the ECI Checker harness and II) labels to be added to the FBC Harness Connector. Both are necessary to prevent damage to the ECI Checker and vehicle wiring harness that can result from improperly connecting the ECI Checker harness and the FBC Harness Connector (Special Tool No. MD998408), to the vehicle wiring harness.
MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR MODIFICATIONS
^ 10A fuse (automotive type)
^ 2 1/4"female blade-type wire terminals
^ 1 wire tie
^ 6 labels (furnished with this bulletin)
1. MODIFICATION PROCEDURE - ECI CHECKER
1. Place the ECI Checker on a bench. Identify the connector with 13 male pins in a female body.
2. Slide back the protective loom on the harness to reveal a jumper wire connecting pins #2 and #10.
NOTE
Pins #2 and #10 can be identified by numbers molded into the plastic body of the connector, and the two cavities are the only ones with two wires leading into them.
3. Cut the jumper wire in the middle, strip the insulation from the cut ends, and crimp on the two female blade-type terminals.
4. Install the 10A fuse on the two terminals.
5. Pull the protective loom back into place, leaving the fuse showing. Fasten the loom securely with a wire tie.
II. ADDITION OF LABELS TO THE FBC HARNESS CONNECTOR
1. Stick the labels furnished with this bulletin onto the connectors of the FBC Harness Connector.
