DISASSEMBLY
1. Raise hood, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove breather hose and P.V.C. hose from rocker cover.
3. Remove oil filler cap attaching bolt, then the oil filler cap assembly, Fig. 3.
4. Remove rocker cover, then the gasket.
5. Rotate crankshaft in normal direction of rotation until No. 1 cylinder is at top dead center and camshaft and crankshaft timing marks are aligned.
6. On 1985 non-Turbo and all 1986-88 engines, prior to removal of rocker arm and rocker shaft assembly, install auto-lash adjuster holder tool No. MD998443-01 to ensure that the auto-lash adjuster is not allowed to fall.
7. Remove semicircular packing, then the oil seal.
8. Remove rocker arm and shaft assembly, then the auto-lash adjuster.
9. Remove camshaft.

ASSEMBLY
1. Reverse disassembly procedure to assemble and note the following:
a. Assemble rocker arms to rocker shafts, then install on cylinder head, Fig. 20.
b. Apply engine oil to inside diameter of rocker before assembly.
c. Ensure that oil hole side is down when installing rocker arm shafts into front camshaft bearing cap.
d. When valve cover is installed, use suitable gasket sealant.
