6. When installing the retainer, select and install a spacer of proper size so that the clearance "C" will be of specified value. Apply sealant to both sides of the front bearing retainer gasket and gear oil to the oil seal lip. (134036)
Retainer to bearing clearance C 0-0.1 mm(0-.004 in.)
7. Install the front bearing retainer.
8. The counter gear end play should be adjusted with a spacer installed on the rear side of the outer race of center taper roller bearing. This spacer is held down by the rear bearing retainer and the reverse -idler gear shaft. Adjust counter gear end play as follows:
(1) Without attaching the rear bearing retainer and reverse idler gear shaft, place the transmission on a work bench as shown in the illustration. (132015)
(2) Hold down the counter gear and the bearing outer race. (in the direction of the arrow shown in illustration) (132015)
(3) Put a spacer of proper thickness (slightly thinner than dimension "H" shown in illustration) on the outer race. (132016)
(4) Put a straight edge on the spacer and try to turn the spacer with your index finger. If the spacer turns lightly, replace it with a spacer one size [0.03 mm(.0012 in.)] thicker, and similarly turn this spacer. In this manner choose and install a spacer which makes the clearance between straight edge and the spacer closest to 0. Make sure that the bearings are NOT preloaded.
Counter gear end play....0 - 0.05 mm (0- .0020 in.)
