EXHAUST MANIFOLD KIT DESCRIPTION An exhaust manifold replacement kit MD997215 is now available for l983-85 Starions. Contents of the kit are listed below and shown in Figure 1. Use this kit when replacing a leaking, cracked, or warped Starion exhaust manifold.

REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
1. Remove and discard the old manifold and gaskets.
2. Screw the M10X30 stud bolts into the square flange of the new manifold. (Fig. 2).
3. Position the gaskets and then install the manifold.
NOTE: On engines built after mid-May, 1985, (engine no. FR3900) please do not reinstall the engine hanger at the No. 1 port because of the length of the stud at that location.
4. Tighten* the exhaust manifold nuts (self-locking nuts) to 11-15 N-m (15-20 ft.lbs).
*NOTE: This torque is less than shown in the Service Manual. It is important to stay within this torque range because it allows the exhaust manifold to flex thus helping prevent breakage. The new three-layer gasket is designed to be effective at this lower torque. Excessive torque can damage the cylinder head and studs!
