MODEL 1983 Starion
The following service procedure is issued to supplement the Suspension Section of the 1983 Starion Service Manual for cross member removal.
Apply the orange sticker supplied with this Service Technical Bulletin to the center of page 2-2 of the Starion Service Manual. The sticker contain referral information to this bulletin.
1. Remove the four engine splash guard bolts, then remove the engine splash guard.
2. Disconnect the strut bars and stabilizer bar from the lower control arms.
NOTE:
Loosening the strut bar front nuts will make removal of the strut bar bolts easier.
3. Remove the lower control arm pivot bolts from the cross member. Pry the lower control arms down and out of the cross member.
NOTE:
Both pivot bolts can be easily removed by pushing the wheels to the full right turn position.
4. Support the engine then remove the bolts attaching the engine mounts to the cross member.
NOTE:
It may be necessary to remove the heat shield from the right engine mount.
5. Remove the bolt just above the left side engine mount securing the wire harness to the cross member.
6. Raise the engine slightly then remove the four cross member retaining nuts. Remove the cross member.
7. Reinstall the front cross member in the reverse of removal using the following specifications.
NOTE:
To prevent over stressing of the lower control arm bushings, the pivot bolts must be torqued to specification with the vehicle at normal road height.
Peel off and apply sticker to the center of page 2-20 of the Starion Service Manual.

Splash Guard Bolts 3-4 2-3
Stabilizer Bar Bolt Protrusion:
15-17 mm (5/8-11/16 in.)
