Evaporator Core Housing

EVAPORATOR CORE HOUSING












Removal and Installation

NOTE:
- If an evaporator core leak is suspected, the evaporator core must be vacuum leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle.
- Installation of a new suction accumulator is not required when repairing the air conditioning system, except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator.

All vehicles
1. Recover the refrigerant.

2. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, depower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to Fire Suppression System.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

3. Drain the engine coolant.
4. Remove the RH front wheel and tire.







5. Remove the screws from the RH fender apron and remove the fender apron.
6. Remove the 2 lower evaporator core housing nuts.
7. Remove the 2 vapor management valve (VMV) bracket nuts and position the VMV and bracket away from the evaporator core housing.
8. Release the 2 heater hose clamps and disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.

9. NOTE: Blower motor speed control electrical connector shown in exploded view, blower motor resistor electrical connector similar.

Disconnect the blower motor speed control (if equipped) or blower motor resistor (if equipped) electrical connector.

10. Disconnect the evaporator outlet fitting.
- Discard the O-ring seals.

11. Disconnect the evaporator inlet fitting.
- Discard the O-ring seals.

12. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.
13. Detach the wire harness pin-type retainer above the blower motor.
14. Detach the wire harness retainer from the evaporator core housing stud.
15. Remove the upper evaporator core housing nut.

Vehicles equipped with EATC
16. Remove the RH lower instrument panel insulator.







17. Disconnect the in-vehicle temperature sensor aspirator hose from the evaporator housing (if equipped).

All vehicles
18. Remove the RH evaporator core housing bolt.
19. Remove the LH evaporator core housing bolt.
20. Remove the evaporator core housing.

21. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Clean and lubricate the coolant hoses with coolant hose lubricant or plain water only if needed.
- Install new O-ring seals.
- Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.

22. Fill the engine cooling system.
23. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system.
