Compressor Fitting HVAC: Service and Repair
Disconnect Tool, Spring Lock Coupling:
SPECIAL TOOL(S)
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Drain the air conditioning system.
3. Remove the Air Conditioning (A/C) hose bracket from the coolant tube.
4. Remove the radiator grille.
5. Remove the left-hand headlamp assembly.
6. Disconnect the headlamp electrical connectors.
7. Using the special tool, disconnect the refrigerant line from the suction accumulator to the A/C compressor.
- Discard the O-ring seals.
CAUTION: Cap the refrigerant lines to prevent dirt ingress.
8. Raise and support the vehicle.
9. Remove the radiator splash shield.
10. Remove upper refrigerant line from the A/C condenser.
- Discard the O-ring seals.
CAUTION: Cap the refrigerant lines to prevent dirt ingress.
11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and unclip the cable.
12. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
1 Unclip the HO2S wiring.
2 Remove the retaining nuts.
13. Remove the two front right-hand splash shield parts (wheel shown removed for charity).
14. Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Slacken the belt by turning the belt tensioner in a clockwise direction.
15. Remove the A/C compressor heat shield.
16. Detach the A/C compressor.
- Disconnect the refrigerant lines.
- Remove the retaining bolts.
- Discard the O-ring seals.
CAUTION: Cap the refrigerant lines to prevent dirt ingress.
17. Remove the A/C compressor.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Remove the manifold and tube assembly.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
- Install new refrigerant line O-ring seals.
- Coat the refrigerant line O-ring seals in clean refrigerant oil prior to installation.
- When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Accessory Drive.
1 Belt tensioner
2 Generator pulley
3 Belt idler pulley
4 Power steering pump pulley
5 A/C compressor pulley
6 Crankshaft pulley
