Power Steering Line/Hose: Service and Repair

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.





3. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the steering gear.





4. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the steering gear.





5. Remove the strap holding the hoses to the steering gear and discard.





6. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
^ Cap the power steering pressure hose and power steering pump.
7. Lower the vehicle.





8. Remove the (A) bolts and remove the (B) power steering pressure hose and brackets.





9. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring electrical connectors.





10. Remove the (A) bolt and position the (B) fuel charging wiring support bracket aside.





11. Disconnect the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.





12. Remove the lower power steering hose retaining bracket bolt.





13. Remove the (A) upper power steering hose retaining bracket screw and open the (B) bracket.





14. Remove the lower power steering hose bracket nut and separate the bracket from the hoses.





15. Remove the screw from the middle power steering hose bracket and separate from the hoses.





16. Remove the power steering return hose retainer bracket bolt.





17. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering pump reservoir.

18. NOTE: After the removal of the power steering hoses it is necessary to remove and discard the O-ring seals.

Remove the hoses from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

1. NOTE: Lubricate and install new O-ring seals where necessary before installation of the power steering hoses.

Position the hoses in the vehicle.





2. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump reservoir and position the clamp.





3. Install the power steering return hose retainer bracket bolt.
4. Install the hoses in the middle and lower power steering hose brackets.





5. Install the lower power steering hose retaining bracket bolt.





6. Connect the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.
7. Install the fuel charging wiring support bracket.





8. Connect the fuel charging wiring electrical connectors.





9. Install the (A) power steering pressure and return hoses in the upper bracket and secure with the (B) screw.





10. Position the two power steering pressure hose brackets and install the bolts.
11. Raise and support the vehicle.





12. NOTE: Ensure that the threads are clean of debris before installation of the hose.

Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.





13. Connect the power steering return hose to the steering gear.





14. NOTE: Install a new teflon seal 388898-S on the power steering pressure hose fitting bet ore connecting the hose.

Connect the power steering pressure hose to the steering gear.
15. Install a new strap to secure the power steering hoses to the steering gear.
16. Lower the vehicle.

17. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

Connect the battery ground cable.
18. Fill the power steering system.
