Expansion Block/Orifice Tube: Service and Repair






SPECIAL TOOLS

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Reclaim the refrigerant.







3. Detach the power steering fluid reservoir and place to one side.

NOTE: Do not drain the power steering system or disconnect any hoses.







4. Separate the tube and position the tube to the evaporator pointing upwards.







5. Using the special tool, remove the fixed orifice.
^ Guide the tool into the tube and hook it into the orifice.
^ Turn the nut in a clockwise direction and pull out the orifice.







6. Using special tools, remove the broken orifice.

NOTE: Use this step for a broken orifice.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE:
^ Install new O-rings and coat them with refrigerant oil.
^ When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
