Differential Clutch: Adjustments

1. If installed, remove differential clutch packs.

WARNING: USE CARE WHEN REMOVING THE DIFFERENTIAL CLUTCH SPRING BECAUSE OF SPRING TENSION.

2. Install Traction-Lok(r) Clutch Gauge T80P-4946-A on each of the side gear differential clutch packs without the rear axle differential clutch shim. Tighten to 6.7 Nm (60 in. lbs.).

NOTE: Soak all friction clutch plates in Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification EST-M2C118-A for at least 15 minutes prior to reassembly.

3. Using a feeler gauge tool, select the thickest feeler blade that will enter between the Traction-Lok(r) Clutch Gauge Tool and the differential clutch pack. This reading will be the thickness of the new rear axle differential clutch shim.
4. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for the opposite differential clutch pack.

NOTE: Do not mix the clutches or shims.

5. Install differential clutch packs.
