Differential Clutch: Adjustments
1. Remove differential clutch packs.WARNING: USE CARE WHEN REMOVING THE DIFFERENTIAL CLUTCH SPRING BECAUSE OF SPRING TENSION.
2. Assemble Traction-Lok(r) Clutch Gauge T80P-4946-A and as an adapter Traction-Lok(r) Clutch Gauge T84P-4946-A on side gear differential clutch pack without rear axle differential clutch shim. Tighten to 6.7 Nm (60 in. lbs.).
Clutch Gauge Mandrel:
CAUTION: The clutch gauge mandrel that comes with Clutch Gauge Tool (T80P-4946-A) is not to be used for 7.5-inch ring gear Traction-Lok(r) applications. Use Clutch Gauge Mandrel (T84P-4946-A) for 7.5-inch ring gear Traction-Lok(r) applications.
NOTE: Soak all friction plates in Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification EST-M2C 118-A for at least 15 minutes prior to reassembly.
3. Using a feeler gauge tool, select the thickest feeler blade that will enter between the Traction-Lok(r) Clutch Gauge and the differential clutch pack. This reading will be the thickness of the new rear axle differential clutch shim.
4. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for opposite differential clutch pack.
5. Install differential clutch packs.
