Installation
1. Replace inboard CV joint stub shaft pilot bearing housing seal.NOTE: Remove Differential Plug T89P-4850-B from the rear axle housing.
2. Install new driveshaft bearing retainer circlip on LH inboard CV joint by pushing new driveshaft bearing retainer circlip into stub shaft groove.
NOTE: With LH halfshaft in vehicle, install new driveshaft bearing retainer circlip as shown. Do not bend or twist circlip.
3. Position rear axle housing on transmission jack and partially raise to align LH CV joint stub shaft into differential side gear. Lightly lubricate LH inboard CV joint stub shaft splines prior to installation.
CAUTION: Do not damage inboard CV joint stub shaft pilot bearing housing and inboard CV joint stub shaft pilot bearing housing seal during halfshaft installation and spline alignment.
4. Locate rear axle housing on front mounting bolts and push in CV joint until driveshaft bearing retainer circlip seats in axle shaft.
5. Install bushings, washers and nuts on rear axle differential front lower insulator. Tighten retaining nuts to 92-136 Nm (68-100 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: Bushings must be installed into rear axle housing as shown.
6. Install rear axle differential rear insulator to axle housing cover. Tighten nuts and bolts to 108-136 Nm (80-100 ft. lbs.).
7. Install rear axle differential rear insulator-to-crossmember retaining bolts and nuts. Tighten to 165-211 Nm (122-155 ft. lbs.).
8. Align marks on driveshaft centering socket yoke and rear axle universal joint flange. Install retaining bolts. Tighten to 95-130 Nm (70-95 ft. lbs.).
9. Install new driveshaft bearing retainer circlip on RH inboard stub shaft by pushing it into stub shaft groove as shown. Do not bend or twist circlip.
10. Lightly lubricate the splines with Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or -K or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B.
11. Carefully align the splines of the stub shaft with the splines in the differential side gear.
NOTE: Do not damage the inboard CV joint stub shaft pilot bearing housing seal. The inboard CV joint stub shaft pilot bearing housing seal must be replaced whenever the halfshaft is removed.
12. Push halfshaft into rear axle housing until driveshaft bearing retainer circlip engages into differential side gear.
NOTE: A non-metallic mallet may be used to aid in seating the driveshaft bearing retainer circlip into the differential side gear groove. If a mallet is necessary, tap only on the outboard CV joint stub shaft.
13. Engage rear wheel knuckle splines with outboard stub shaft splines.
14. Install rear suspension upper arm and bushing bolts and nuts. Align paint marks. Tighten bolts to 160-200 Nm (119-147 ft. lbs.).
15. Install new rear axle wheel hub retainer and pull CV joint into hub as far as possible by hand, as shown.
16. Install rear suspension lower arm and bushing retaining bolt and nut. Tighten to 160-200 Nm (119-147 ft. lbs.).
17. Install brake drum and new pushnuts.
18. Fill rear axle housing with SAE 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant XY-80W90-QL or -KL or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSP-M2C197-A.
19. Install fill plug. Tighten to 20-41 Nm (15-30 ft. lbs.).
20. Install rear brake anti-lock sensors on each side of rear axle housing. Tighten to 19-27 Nm (14-20 ft. lbs.).
21. Install wheel and tire assembly. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-104 ft. lbs.).
22. Lower vehicle.
23. Tighten rear axle wheel hub retainer to 340 Nm (250 ft. lbs.).
24. Install wheel cover.
