Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Remove fuel tank filler cap and release fuel tank pressure.
3. Perform fuel pressure release procedure.
4. Remove vacuum line from fuel pressure regulator.
5. Remove two Allen-head retaining screws from fuel pressure regulator housing.
6. Remove fuel pressure regulator, return seal and O-rings. Discard fuel pressure regulator return seal and O-rings.
7. If scraping is necessary, do not damage fuel pressure regulator or fuel injection supply manifold sealing surfaces.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate fuel pressure regulator O-rings with clean engine oil meeting Ford Specification WSS-M2C153-F.
CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. Silicone grease will clog the fuel injectors.
2. Make sure sealing surfaces of fuel pressure regulator and fuel injection supply manifold are clean.
3. Install new fuel pressure regulator O-rings and new return seal on fuel pressure regulator and in fuel injection supply manifold return port.
4. Install fuel pressure regulator on fuel injection supply manifold. Tighten retaining screws to 3.0-4.5 Nm (27-39 lb in).
5. Install vacuum line to fuel pressure regulator.
6. Perform Post-Service Procedures. Service and Repair
