Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove valve covers (6582).
2. Remove rocker arm seat retaining bolts from cylinder heads (6049) and remove rocker arms (6664).

INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate all rocker arms with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.

CAUTION: Rocker arm seats (6A528) must be fully seated in cylinder head and push rods (6565) must be seated in rocker arm sockets prior to final tightening or damage to engine may occur.

2. For each valve, rotate crankshaft (6303) until valve tappet (6500) rests onto heel (base circle) of camshaft lobe. Position rocker arms over push rods. Install rocker arm seats. Tighten rocker arm seat retaining bolts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.) maximum.

NOTE: For final tightening, the camshaft (6250) may be in any position.

3. Final-tighten rocker arm seat bolts to 30-40 Nm (23-29 ft. lbs.).
4. Install valve covers.
