Brake Fluid Pump: Service and Repair

Refer to Fig. 4, during the following procedure.
1. With hydraulic system discharged, disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain as much brake fluid as possible from reservoir.
3. Disconnect suction line between reservoir and pump.
4. Remove accumulator and banjo bolt attaching high pressure line to pump housing.
5. Disconnect low pressure line between fluid reservoir and pump suction port.
6. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect electrical connector from pump motor and pressure switch. It may be necessary to disconnect the lefthand tie-rod from the steering knuckle to gain access to the pressure warning switch electrical connector.
7. Remove bolt and spacer attaching pump and motor assembly to hydraulic actuation unit. Slide pump and motor assembly toward driver's side to clear attaching pin. Remove pump and motor assembly.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Torque Allen head bolt to 5-7 ft. lbs. There must be a gap of .06-.13 inch between washer on Allen head bolt and isolator bushing retainer cap. Torque banjo bolt to 12-15 ft. lbs.
