The blower motor thermal limiter snap lock resistor assembly, Fig. 6, is located on the heater case assembly in the engine compartment. There are four resistance elements mounted on the resistor board to provide four blower speeds. Depending on blower switch position, series resistance is added or bypassed in the blower motor circuit to increase or decrease blower motor speed.
A thermal limiter snap lock resistor assembly is similar to a standard resistor assembly except for the additional coil and configuration. Overheating of the resistor coil(s) may occur when the system air flow is reduced as a result of an inlet or outlet air restriction or if the blower wheel becomes locked and/or is unable to turn freely.
When the thermal limiter snap lock resistor circuit has opened as the result of excessive heat, it must be replaced only with the identical replacement thermal limiter snap lock resistor assembly.
