Subject: Owner Notification Program B81 - Certain 1988 Mercury Tracers - Loose Rear Suspension Strut Upper Attaching Nuts

Vehicles Certain 1988 Mercury Tracers produced at the Hermosillo
Affected Assembly Plant from April 22, 1987 through May 27, 1987.

Reasons for Some of these cars may have been built without the rear
This Program strut upper attaching nut being sufficiently torqued.

^ Drivers may hear a loud metal-to-metal noise/rattle coming from the rear of the car.

^ It is acceptable for owners to drive their cars with loose or disconnected rear struts, however, continued operation with loose or disconnected rear struts could eventually result in strut damage.

Action By Repairs will be performed on eligible cars at no charge
Ford to owners for 12 months from the cars' in-service-date
or for 12,000 miles of operation, whichever comes first.

We have enclosed a list of affected vehicles delivered to your dealership. To assist in vehicle identification, this program will also be entered in CARES and OASIS.

Owners will be notified to return their cars to any Lincoln-Mercury dealer to have the torque on the rear strut upper attaching nuts checked and, if necessary, to have the nuts tightened or the struts reattached.

Special A special service tool is required to perform the torque
Service Tool checking procedures for this program. The tool (Rotunda

#014-00630) will be direct shipped to dealers at no charge.

To names and addresses do not appear on the listing. Arrange
with these owners to have their cars serviced as promptly as possible. Affected cars in stock must be corrected before delivery.
Your parts and service personnel must be provided with this package. They must be familiar with the program to respond to owner inquiries.
