ISSUE: An inoperative function selector lever for the heater to defrost modes may be caused by a cable casing that is not fully seated in the housing. brace on the plenum chamber. The loose cable casing may allow the cable end to slip off the plenum door lever pin.
ACTION: To correct this, adjust the control cable using the following service procedure.
NOTE: Bending the door lever pin will not improve the function, but may damage the component.
1. Position function selector lever in "Defrost" position.
2. Remove passenger's sound deadening panel.

3. Release cable, located on right side of heater case, from cable housing brace, Figure 7.

4. With cable end on door lever pin, push door lever down to its extreme stop, Figure 8.

5. Secure cable into cable housing brace, Figure 9.
6. Adjust function selector rod as outlined in the 1988 Tracer Shop Manual, Section 36-02.
