Backing Plate: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove tire and wheel assembly, then the brake drum.
4. Remove brake shoes.
5. Spread retaining clip and pull parking brake cable out of the backing plate.
6. Disconnect and cap wheel cylinder brake line.
7. Remove wheel flange and bearing hub. The wheel flange attaching nuts are left and right hand threaded. The right hand threaded nuts are located on the right side of the vehicle. Never interchange left and right hand side wheel flange attaching nuts.
8. Remove backing plate assembly.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
