ASHTRAY - FRONT CONSOLE STICKS OR SLOW TO OPEN

MERKUR: 1988 SCORPIO

ISSUE: A slow to open or partially opened front console ashtray may be caused by a misaligned console. The misaligned console will not allow the ashtray door to properly cycle.

FIGURE 1:

ACTION: To correct this, realign the console using the following service procedure.

1. Remove the front console ashtray.

2. Loosen the two (2) front console retaining screws, Figure 1.

3. Apply rearward pressure to the console while retightening the two (2) console retaining screws.

NOTE: THE CONSOLE WILL MOVE ABOUT 1/16" (1.5 mm).

4. Reinstall the front console ashtray.
