BODYSIDE MOULDING INSERTS 88-5-5

MERKUR: 1988 SCORPIO

ISSUE: Loose and distorted bodyside moulding inserts on 1988 Scorpios may be caused by the inserts expanding under sunload on hot days. The expansion allows the friction fit inserts to loosen and separate from the bodyside moulding retention channel.

ACTION: To correct this, apply Ford 414 Adhesive on the inserts and reinstall them into the bodyside moulding retention channel. Refer to the following service procedure for adhesive application instructions.

1. Remove the insert from the bodyside moulding retention channel (pulls off).

2. Clean and dry the insert and bodyside moulding retention channel.

NOTE: Ford 414 Adhesive is supplied in service kit D7AZ-19554-C, that also contains 414 Accelerator. DO NOT use the Accelerator during this service procedure. Read and follow all warnings and cautions packaged with the product.

3. Apply a light coat of Ford 414 Adhesive to the entire bodyside moulding retention channel.

4. Find the insert locator area inside the rear of the bodyside moulding retention channel. Carefully slide the insert into the retention channel forward of the insert locator.

5. Align the insert inside the bodyside moulding retention channel and snap the end into the recess at the rear of the channel.
