MERKUR: 1988-89 SCORPIO

ISSUE: An air conditioning/heater blower motor that runs at high speed only and will not turn "OFF" or will not run at all may be caused by a faulty blower controller module (resistor). There are no "ATC" service codes to assist in diagnosing a faulty blower motor controller.

ACTION: Install a new blower motor controller, (resistor). Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Locate the blower motor controller module cover on the evaporator case in the engine compartment, Figure 1.

3. Remove the three (3) screws that hold the blower motor controller module cover to the evaporator case, Figure 1.

4. Using a flat blade screwdriver, gently pry the cover open.

5. Disconnect the blower motor controller module electrical connector.

6. Remove the blower motor controller module and cover assembly.

7. Obtain a new blower motor controller module, E7RY-18591-A.

8. Reverse Steps 1 through 6 to install the new blower motor controller module.
