Dear Mr. Sample:
This is to advise you of a special Ford Motor Company service program involving your 1988 Merkur Scorpio.

Reason For This Program:
We want to update several components on your Scorpio to the latest production design levels. This service will improve the air conditioning performance, engine idle, driveability and other items which we believe you will appreciate.
What We Will Do:
Depending on the original build date of your Scorpio, your dealer will service or replace several items, including the:
* fuel gauge level sensor
* speedometer
* power door locks
* Automatic Temperature Control system
The Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system will be fitted with an "Auto/Off" button. This will allow you to turn the ATC system off by pressing the Auto/Off button. In the Off mode, the blower fan and A/C compressor are turned off and no outside air can enter the car. Merely pressing the Auto/Off button again will return the system to "Automatic". For maximum A/C cool-down performance, you still must set the control on "RECIRC".
Service Limitations:
This service will, of course, be provided free of charge, within certain time and mileage limits. The service will be in effect for 12 months from the in-service date or 12,000 miles of operation or through March 31, 1988 whichever gives you the greatest coverage. After these limitations expire, other warranty coverages may be available. Consult your Warranty Information booklet for this information.
We will modify several other components, including the engine throttle body, the electronic engine control module and the speed sensor. These items are not limited by time, mileage or the March 31, 1988 date.
What You Should Do:
We ask that you contact your Lincoln-Mercury-Merkurdealer as soon as possible and ask for a service date. When you bring your Scorpio in, give the dealer the attached form. If you misplace the form, the dealer will still do the service, free of charge. Your dealer will also provide you with a free loaner or rental car, (except for fuel) if the service on your Scorpio takes more than one day.

Refunds:
If you paid to have any of these program services performed prior to this announcement, Ford will refund to you, the cost of all parts and labor. For a refund, take your paid repair order or parts purchase receipt to your Lincoln-Mercury dealer no later than March 31, 1988. The dealer will process a refund if the repair was made within 12 months of the in-service date or 12,000 miles of service.
