Significant dissassembly of the car is required. To be sure of proper reassembly and to prevent damage or soiling of the car, the following precautions must be taken.

^ Open all four doors, liftgate and hood.

^ Cover fenders, carpets and seats.

^ Move front seats all the way back.

^ Disconnect the battery.

^ Use a "cup cake" type pan to hold and sort screws, washers, etc.

^ If a clean bench is not available near the car, put removed parts (crash pad, radio, lower instrument panel, console, etc.) in the luggage area. Do not put them on the seats or on the roof of the car.

^ Follow the instruction sheets. Do not shortcut the procedure.

^ If any parts (screws, clips, retainers, etc.) are lost or damaged, they must be replaced.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
CARS PREVIOUSLY MODIFIED PER TSB INSTRUCTIONS

Several service operations described in this program (M57) have been detailed as TSB (Technical Service Bulletins) articles. The following list indicates these TSB articles.

TSB NUMBER SERVICE ITEM
87-22-21 RADIATOR REPLACE

87-23-2 ATC SYSTEM (ON/OFF BUTTON)

87-20-8 ATC SYSTEM (TEMPERATURE SENSOR)
ATC SYSTEM (COOLING FAN REWIRE)

87-23-4 SPEEDOMETER REPLACE

87-18-3 POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS

87-20-10 FUEL PUMP/SENDER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

87-21-9 A/C DIODE CONTINUITY CHECK

Before starting the service procedures for Program 87M57, inspect service records and/or the car to be sure none of the above TSB repairs have been performed.

Inspect as follows:
*ATC SYSTEM - Inspect the ATC Control Head. If an "ON/OFF" button is found, the control head is correct and control head replacement is not required. If the control head does not have an "ON/OFF" button, proceed with Procedure Program M57. Check vehicle service records to determine if TSB 87-20-8 has been performed. If not, the ATC Air Temperature Sensor must also be relocated (see Procedure H, Tech. Instructions).

The condenser cooling fan wiring (underhood) should be inspected for TSB 87-20-8 rework (see Operation I, Tech. Instructions). If the wiring has not been reworked, proceed with Operation I, Program M57.

*SPEEDOMETER - Many speedometers have already been replaced in service. Before replacing the speedometer, inspect the face of the gauge. If the trip odometer has a separate "window" for tenths of a mile, the new part has already been installed. If the separate "tenths" window is not found, proceed with Operation D, Program M57.

*POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS - Remove one rear door trim panel and read the lock actuator part number. The correct part number is 87BG-220A20-A1B. If any other number is found, proceed with Operation E, Program M57.

Inspection time allowances for the above service are contained in the "Scheduled Time" shown on Attachment III, page 9.
