MERKUR: 1988 SCORPIO

ISSUE: The 1988 Scorpio is equipped with unique high security locks for the ignition, doors and liftgate. Because these lock cylinders and keys are of a different design than conventional locking systems, cylinder service (other than replacement) and key duplicating cannot be done by dealers or local locksmiths. The glove box lock and key is conventional TX (like XR4Ti) and can be serviced locally or by dealers.

ACTION: If high security lock cylinder service and/or key duplicating is required, dealers must obtain the key codes and the vehicle identification number (VIN) and call the Rotunda Hotline (800)- 762-6181. Key codes are shown on the Dealer Copy of the Vehicle Invoice. This service will be provided to dealers only. Orders will not be accepted from vehicle owners. Refer to Sections 31- 20 and 44-06 of the Merkur Scorpio Shop Manual for lock cylinder removal and installation procedures.
