Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair
CAUTION: It is mandatory that hydraulic pressure be discharged from the system before reservoir removal. The hydraulic accumulator contains brake fluid under high pressure. Turn ignition off and pump brake pedal a minimum of 20 times until an increase in pedal force is clearly felt to discharge system pressure.
Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Ensure braking system pressure is completely discharged.
3. Disconnect reservoir filler cap electrical connector. Remove filler cap.
4. Remove spring clip retaining low-pressure hose to electrical pump.
5. Drain hydraulic fluid.
6. Remove Allen screw attaching reservoir retaining bracket. Remove bracket.
7. Pry reservoir from hydraulic unit with screwdrivers.
8. Remove and discard reservoir seals from hydraulic unit.
9. Remove low-pressure hose from reservoir.
Installation
1. Ensure new seals are installed and correctly aligned in hydraulic unit bores.
2. Install low-pressure hose to reservoir.
3. Lubricate seals and reservoir connections with brake fluid. Install reservoir to hydraulic unit.
4. Install reservoir retaining bracket and screw to reservoir and hydraulic unit.
5. Install low-pressure hose to electric pump.
a. If hose elbow connections are firmly pushed into pump assembly, install spring clip.
6. Connect battery ground cable and perform system brake bleeding procedures.
7. Connect fluid reservoir filler cap electrical connector. Top off reservoir as needed.
8. Check brake system for leaks and operation.
