INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Note: Some of the affected cars were modified under a previous recall (Emissions Recall 88E72). It will be necessary to remove any parts installed for that recall before installing the parts for this recall.
DISTRIBUTOR VACUUM MODIFICATION (Refer to Attachment III-2)
1. Look at the vacuum line at the distributor vacuum advance unit. If there is a 2-inch length of hose and a vacuum delay valve connected to it like those shown (shaded) on the illustration, remove and discard the hose and valve before proceeding to step 2.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose at the distributor, if necessary. Take the vacuum delay valve and 2-inch hose assembly from the kit and connect the hose end of the assembly to the distributor. Connect the original distributor hose to the vacuum delay valve.
AIR CONTROL AND EGR VACUUM MODIFICATION
1. Look at the hoses connected to the EGR valve and air control valve. If the hoses look like those shown (shaded) on the illustration, remove and discard the vacuum hoses, T-connector and vacuum delay valve before proceeding to step 2.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the air control valve and plug it by using the connector and cap assembly from the kit. Note: The hose may already be disconnected and plugged as a result of Recall 88E72.
3. Take the vacuum delay valve, connector and hose assembly from the kit. Disconnect the hose from the EGR valve, if necessary, and connect it to the vacuum delay valve. Connect the short length of hose to the EGR valve and the long length of hose to the air control valve.
4. Secure the long vacuum hose with tie straps to prevent contact with hot engine parts.
AUTHORIZED MODIFICATIONS AND SERVICE INFORMATION DECALS
The preprinted Authorized Modifications and Service Information Decals shown below are provided in the parts kit.
1. If the vehicle is equipped with a hood blanket, cut out a 4-inch by 5-inch piece of the blanket on the passenger side of the hood.
2. Clean the surface of the hood.
3. Insert your P&A code and date on the Authorized Modifications Decal and attach the Authorized Modifications and the Service Information Decals to the hood. Then place the clear overlay on the Authorized Modifications Decal.
