Evaporative Emissions System: Testing and Inspection
EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM LEAK TESTSpecial Tool(s)
Special Tool(s):
Phase 1 - Leak Verification
1. Connect the smoke machine fuel evaporative emission (EVAP) system tester to the test port on the EVAP canister purge valve.
2. Using the scan tool, close the EVAP canister vent solenoid.
3. Using the smoke machine EVAP system tester, pressurize the EVAP system.
4. Monitor the indicator flag on the smoke machine EVAP system tester. If the measurement is below the indicator flag, the system has passed the leak test and the test procedure is complete. If the measurement is above the indicator flag, the system has failed the leak test. Proceed to Phase 2.
Phase 2 - System Leak Check
1. Introduce smoke from the smoke machine EVAP system tester into the EVAP system.
2. Use the halogen light provided with the smoke machine EVAP system tester to look for smoke coming from the EVAP system. This would indicate a leak point.
3. Repair any leaks as necessary.
4. Repeat the leak test until the system passes.
