Y22/6 Variable intake manifold switchover valve

Location
The switchover valve is mounted at the front of variable intake manifold.

Task
To control the intake manifold switchover, the switchover valve applies vacuum from the vacuum reservoir to the vacuum unit of the variable intake manifold.

Design
The switchover valve consists of a solenoid, a 2-sided valve plate, three air connections and a 2-pin connector. The coil resistance about 30 Ohms at 20°C.

Function
1 Vacuum to variable intake manifold vacuum unit
2 Vacuum from the vacuum reservoir
3 Aeration (atmosphere)
4 2-pin plug connection.
A Switchover valve energized (actuated)
B Switchover valve deenergized

The switchover valve is actuated by the intake manifold switchover by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) by means of a ground signal. The voltage supply takes place from "circuit 87 M2".

The valve plate actuated by the coil armature switches between aeration (atmosphere) and vacuum supply from the vacuum reservoir.

In the energized state, connection 3 is closed by the valve plate and a vacuum is created in the variable intake manifold vacuum unit by the vacuum reservoir. The long intake tract in the variable intake manifold is enabled via a linkage.

In the deenergized state, connection 2 is closed by the valve plate and a connection is made between connections 1 and 3. This admits air to the variable intake manifold vacuum unit (via connector 3) and the short intake tract in the variable intake manifold is enabled.
