Y3/8n4 Fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit
Location
The fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) is integrated in the electric controller unit (VGS) which is located in the oil pan at the bottom of the transmission.
Task
General
With its own independent diagnosis system the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) determines the current operating condition of the vehicle and controls all the gear change sequences taking into account shift comfort and the driving situation.
Flash programming
The transmission control system in the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) is flash programmable i.e. the complete software in the control unit can be replaced (installed new). The software required for control unit programming is stored on the STAR DIAGNOSIS DAS update DVD.
CAN data bus
The fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) is connected to the CAN network of the vehicle via the drive train CAN (CAN-C) and exchanges data with other control units.
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) is the interface between the drive train CAN and chassis CAN (CAN E).
The central gateway control unit (N93) is the interface between the chassis CAN (CAN E) and the central CAN (CAN F).
The BAS release switch (A7/7s1) on Model 221 is replaced as of 2.6.09 and on model 216 as of 1.9.10 by the brake light switch (S9/1). With code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS and code (239) ART Plus Light, the BAS release switch is still used.
Input and output signals
The following input signals are evaluated by the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) and the appropriate output signals are generated:
